Here is a new playable class, hillfolk. This scratches that halfling / hobbit itch. They certainly are not as sturdy, dangerous, or skilled as dwarves… but they have their charms. They only have one combat role (it isn’t their thing) and instead of Resolve they have Resilience. They are surprisingly good at surviving danger, and they get experience from travel, survival, and indulgence.
Under the Mountain has rules for playing as humans (including wizards) and elves. Now, with hillfolk, you can play an even stranger group of adventurers.

At last! The fourth race we need for the Legally Distinct Really Long Journey!*.Thank you so much for this, they look great, though I’m left pondering whether Mile-Eater should perhaps have been something that all our Smallfolk might have been allowed to learn in play…… but if so, what to replace it with? Hmm… a very particular dynamic, these smallfolk enjoy. 🤔

I could see that. Maybe even breaking the whole “traveler” skill into generally available hillfolk upgrades.

Oh, I like that.
Perhaps nick some of the Dwarven ‘merchant’ ones if you wanted an equivalent, but with a mercantile emphasis. Hmm… I shall think on it, but that definitely has appeal.
(And it’s mostly because let’s face it, Sam might’ve started a gardener but he sure managed Mile Eater in the end. 😉)
