Averline was the true heir to the monarchy over all of Stoneshadow. He traveled through many harrowing adventures to reach a secret library on a barge, home to Algar the Oracle (who kept the barge moving and out of the hands of those who would destroy secret knowledge.) Averline planned to use the library’s secret lore to prove his lineage and credentials to be High King.

Delbaria was also there, a dwarven woman who was determined to be a wizard even though her talents were meager and no one would train her. She masqueraded as Crushclaw of Cliffside, pretending to be a wizard so she could study in the library. She met Averline, and both disguised dwarves sensed the passion and ambition in the other; they fell in love and married within a week of meeting, inspired by all that was lost while in the presence of what the barge library had preserved.

Algar the Oracle had seen into the future, and knew that if Averline was allowed access to the barge library, then Averline would face death. However, this death would trigger the revolution, as those inspired by the rightful heir would overthrow the corrupt monarch ruling Stoneshadow. Therefore, Algar allowed Averline to catch up to the barge and study, and in the meantime, Algar betrayed him, informing the elves of Fenhollow of Averline’s identity and location.

The elves of Fenhollow traded this critical information to the High King, who granted them sovereignty over their damp little island as a reward. The High King’s agents cornered Averline and murdered him.

Delbaria was inspired in her fury against the injustice and tragedy of this loss, both to her and to the dwarven nation. This assassination lit a fire in her, and she gathered allies and waged war, becoming a queen and then the High Queen, Monarch of Stoneshadow. And so began the war.

Long ago, Mad Marga was a master sculptor of Clan Bastion. Her gift and specialty was for sculpting nudes, which displeased the more prudish archon of the clan. He censored her work, so in protest Mad Marga seduced his wife and made an anatomically detailed and accurate four-times-life-size sculpture of her and displayed it in the public square of the clan home.

Predictably, she was banished. She fled to Whiskey Forge, where she was welcomed with fanfare. She inspired a whole movement with her nude statues of the clan leaders. Then a Chosen prophesied that she must go to Picnic Pass, on the surface of the mountain far above, higher than the snow line. If she did, then she would receive a great blessing.

After fifteen years, six months, and four days, Hellifino (the ‘h’ is silent) visited her. He was famed as a God of Ur, the Bad Hombre. He presented her with a rune-scribed hammer, to make sculptures. His only request in return was that she make a statue of him, nude. She spent 300 years practicing to get it just right.

Shortly before the final masterpiece statue was finished, Gorefang led a greenskin horde to attack the dwarves of Whiskey Forge by surprise, moving through Picnic Pass. Hellifino animated the hundreds of nude statues Mad Marga had carved through the centuries, and they crushed the green tide.

Meanwhile, a Chosen acolyte had a dream about Hellifino’s distress in the pass far above, and journeyed to check on Mad Marga. He found her burned out with divine energy, surrounded by a carpet of greenskin corpses, compulsively carving the last touches of Helifino’s nude statue.

The archon authorized a crypt be carved in Picnic Pass, renamed Fuggov Pass, after the massive battle that fended off the greenskins. The hammer was entombed with Mad Marga in the crypt, which was within the massive wall that sealed off the pass so no further sneak attacks would be possible. The orc-facing side was festooned with skulls fixed to the stone, a horrifying deterrent against future incursions, blessed with the power of the Gods of Ur.

Clan Caskbound was spared by the obedience of Mad Marga to the Gods of Ur. Follow their promptings, and the clan will prosper through your efforts.

This legend was generated for the Templar of the Falls by players using the lore-building deck.  (5.8.15)

Once upon a time, Galdra was a dwarven lass. She learned that the Stonecutter family, nobles in a clan near the Templar of the Falls, were plotting to overthrow the archon. They were lying, accusing the Templar of the Falls of raiding across the border, and they were provoking the Templar of the Falls into a border skirmish. They planned to use that conflict as an excuse to make a bid for the throne!

She ran toward the Templar of the Falls with her terrible secret, and hunters of the Stonecutter family pursued her to silence her. Before they caught her, she fled into Welderia Marsh. There she met a powerful and wise hag named Griptwist, who sheltered her in the mists.

Galdra learned from Griptwist that the evil of the Stonecutter family was deeper than mere politics. They worshiped demons, that was why they were so powerful. Determined not to let them get away with it, Galdra disguised herself as a bandit, raiding their family holdings with great daring and cunning and the magical help of the hag witch.

She became famous as One-Eye the Bandit. As she raided the Stonecutter family holdings, she discovered it was almost time or them to pay a tribute of sacrifices to their demon patron. She focused her energy on finding the sacrifices the Stonecutter family collected to give the demon, and liberating them. When the time came, the Stonecutter family had no tribute to offer.

The demon burned off the flesh of their heads, leaving only a skull above the neck. So great was the demon’s rage that the holding was pulled down and haunted.

In the end, no one knows what became of Griptwist, or whether Galdra the One-Eyed Bandit followed in her footsteps and became a witch in turn. What is known is that the Stonecutter family seat is still a tumbled and haunted ruin to this very day. And that is how the sky fell upon the Stonecutter family.
